Summer Skiing (And We Don’t Mean Water)

While the sun and sand may appeal to most people, many hardcore ski enthusiasts sink into a deep depression as the summer months creep closer. Fortunately, summer ski resorts from around the globe offer plenty of snowfall for extreme skiers to quench their thirst for the slopes during those unbearably hot months. Many of these summer ski resorts offer ski packages and massive hills that will make your frozen mouth water.
In the southern hemisphere, summer ski resorts dot the map and many offer gnarly slopes suitable for the most advanced skiers. In New Zealand, extreme skiers can travel to Treble Cone, which is considered by many skiers as the best slopes the country has to offer. And for those that wish to travel to the mainland, Mount Hotham in Australia has plenty of expert slopes that will keep your heart pumping.
And don’t leave South America out of the mix. Valle Nevado in Chile has a 5k run and 19 snow cannons that will keep you in the cold for a majority of your stay while Las Lenas in Argentina has a large number of bowls and chutes as well as a volcano you can explore when you’re taking a break from the slopes.
The northern hemisphere offers a ski packages for the hardcore skier in the form of glacier skiing which gives skiers the chance to get a suntan as they barrel down the mountain. It is important to remember that you should start early as the midday sun will often turn the slopes to slush. But don’t be too upset thinking about an early end to you ski day. The afternoon warmth provides a great opportunity for hiking and mountain biking.
Zermatt in Switzerland and Val d’Isère in France offer ski packages for a European summer ski resort experience but their expert slopes are few. For those who need the rush, however, Passo Tonale in Italy and Stubai in Austria have plenty of expert slopes for skiing extremists.
Don’t panic if you can’t afford to jet off to some exotic European country or the southern hemisphere. Summer ski resorts are right her in the good old USA as well. Timberline Lodge is located on Mt. Hood near Government Camp, Oregon has 32 ski trails that will keep even the most avid skier occupied all summer long.
So, put the Prozac back in your dresser and grab your skis because summer ski packages are available no matter where you are in the world. And with less people on the slopes, it means less time waiting to get back up the mountain. Take some time this summer to visit a favorite ski resort or find a new one and leave your swim trunks in the dresser and make this a summer in the snow.

Mapping Bike Trails
April, 16 2009
SUS will be doing additional mapping for bike trails this season. If you have an area that you think should be mapped let us know. We are also seeking people to assist us with mapping. So if you like to bike and want to map and video a trip get in contact with us.
Here's the Deal! We are a site for riders and by riders. Sack Up Sports, with the assistance of some local companies, will hook riders and correspondents up with gear and clothing at huge discounts, sometimes free, in exchange for articles, reviews, user sign ups, mapping and promotional assistance. Further, Sack Up Sports will issue helmet cams and GPS units to a select number of riders and correspondents. The is sponsor program is designed to let the individual control how much help they get based on what they contribute rather than how they rank. If you are interested in finding out more Team Sack Up Sports please contact us at sponsorme@sackupsports.com or catch up with us on the mountain. See schedule for dates.
